The Kenyan legal framework obligates the national and county governments to involve the people in the decision making process. To achieve this ideal, county governments are required to establish structures to facilitate citizen participation in their operations. This policy brief sheds light on some of the issues that counties should focus on so as to institutionalize and strengthen systems for public participation in county decision making processes.

Governments and non-governmental organizations around the world have embraced commu-nity or complementary currencies (CCs) as tools of poverty reduction, environmental protec-tion and promotion of social solidarity. Community Currencies are best viewed as a financial innovation to assist local-level development and are seen as a new age poverty-reduction strategy.

Call now open for the 2021/22 British Institute in Eastern Africa (BIEA) Graduate Attachment Scheme (GAS). This is a great scheme for recent BA/MA graduates and includes research training and experience, Kiswahili language lessons, and the chance to get involved in research events. This year the BIEA had GAS from Germany, Ghana, India, Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, UK and Zimbabwe.
